1. About DFS

We began as R&D engineers in a joint venture factory that produced carbon fiber bicycles for renowned international brands. Witnessing the rise of Chinese manufacturing, we were driven to start our own venture. In 2014, we established our factory, applying the finest materials and craftsmanship to build dreams for others.

A fundamental question arose: if we could create such exceptional products, why couldn't they be made available directly to passionate riders at a more reasonable price? This simple idea gave birth to the DFS brand in 2018. We transitioned from working solely on blueprints to building a business on our own conviction. By establishing our factory and brand, we eliminated unnecessary middlemen, channeling all our energy and resources into the product itself. This is more than a business model; it is our core mission: to make the exhilarating performance and precise handling of top-tier carbon wheelsets accessible to every dedicated cyclist.

We are committed to tailoring products to our clients' specific needs and aspirations. From special configurations and custom decals to premium hub and spoke brands, we offer diverse options that reflect individual lifestyles. We believe the art of handcrafting rims and wheelsets is timeless. All partnered components are meticulously selected and must prove themselves in the market for over six months.

2. Manufacturing & Quality Control

Every DFS Carbon rim undergoes a rigorous, multi-stage, closed-loop inspection process post-molding:

  1. Visual & Tactile Inspection: Trained inspectors meticulously examine each rim for surface imperfections like pinholes, scratches, dimples, or resin pooling.

  2. Precision Dimensional Measurement: Tools like calipers and dial gauges verify critical dimensions (internal/external width, diameter, ERD) against design drawings, with tolerances tightly controlled within ±0.2mm.

  3. Roundness & Lateral Runout Check: On dedicated jigs, radial (roundness) and axial (wobble) runout are measured. While industry standards are ≤2mm and ≤0.5mm respectively, our internal standards for race-grade rims are significantly stricter.

  4. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic flaw detectors scan 100% of critical stress areas (bed, sidewalls, joints) to identify internal flaws like delamination or voids, detecting cracks as small as 0.5mm in diameter without damaging the product.

  5. Dynamic Balancing: Each rim is balanced on a machine to ensure smooth, vibration-free performance at high speeds.

Beyond routine checks, destructive batch sampling tests are conducted, especially for new models, to evaluate structural performance and impact limits. A full traceability system logs every manufacturing step and operator. Weight is measured at each stage, which is critical for ultra-light rim production. Each finished rim carries a unique traceable ID linking it to its production batch, operators, and full QC data. Detailed test reports document all findings.

Our internal control standards consistently exceed international safety norms (e.g., ISO 4210) and mandatory Chinese standards (GB 3565.2-2022).

3. Materials & Process

Our material philosophy is: "Match the right material to the performance goal, don't just chase prestigious names."

  • Core Materials: We use high-quality Toray (Japan) carbon fiber as our primary raw material, ensuring batch consistency and top-tier mechanical properties. This is paired with a high-performance epoxy resin system specifically formulated for bicycles, offering high toughness, heat resistance (critical for rim-brake wheels), fatigue endurance, and optimal weight-to-strength ratio.

  • External Production Assurance: For rim models we do not produce in-house, we partner only with established, reputable factories with whom we have collaborated for years. Every rim sourced externally undergoes 100% re-inspection for appearance, dimensions, and runout, plus sampling for destructive testing before acceptance.
