When I recommend the R2 hub, customers often ask: "Why the R2? Can you briefly explain what makes it so good?" Today, let's break down its key benefits.

First, it's important to understand that hub performance is defined by these key aspects:

1.Rolling Resistance & Lubrication Efficiency
This is the core performance metric, directly impacting coasting distance and how light the startup feels. High-end hubs use a contact seal on the non-drive side and a labyrinth seal on the drive side, striking the perfect balance between dust/water protection and low friction.
The R2 uses EZO contact-sealed bearings or TPI ceramic bearings (also contact-sealed), combined with low-viscosity, high-quality grease to further reduce startup and running resistance. The result is a wheel that feels "more alive" and accelerates with remarkable ease.

2.Engagement Speed
This refers to the time and angle it takes for the hub's ratchet mechanism to transfer from freewheeling to driving when you pedal.
Fast engagement is a significant advantage when sprinting out of the saddle, climbing, or navigating technical MTB terrain. Power transfer is almost instantaneous, greatly benefiting bike control and power application.
Sound: An Audible Sign of Performance - A high tooth count often comes with a denser, louder buzz, giving you that "sports car roar."
The R2 features the patented SSF (Smoother, Simpler, Faster) ratchet system. It doubles the smoothness, offers high 45T/72T engagement points, and dramatically improves response with a tiny 5°/8° engagement angle. This design also reduces drag, is more streamlined, offers superior lubrication, higher efficiency, and lower failure rates.

3.Stiffness
Hub stiffness directly affects power transfer efficiency and the wheel's lateral stiffness.
A larger flange provides better bracing angles for the spokes, enhancing both lateral and driving stiffness. A wider flange spacing builds a more stable wheel with better lateral rigidity. You feel this when a stiff hub responds with a solid, direct feel during hard sprints or out-of-the-saddle efforts, with minimal flex from the wheel system.
The R2's 2:1 large flange design ensures more efficient power transfer and superior stiffness. The flange diameter is increased to 74mm, significantly boosting drive and lateral stiffness. The flanges are distinctively shaped with chamfered edges for smooth transitions (no sharp edges). The main bearing position is moved 2mm outward, further enhancing lateral stiffness, making the R2's bearing placement one of the most outboard among lightweight hubs.

4.Durability & Reliability
This determines the hub's lifespan and maintenance intervals.
The R2 features bearing preload adjustment, which optimizes smoothness and extends bearing life—a feature typically absent on lower-end hubs.
TC4 titanium alloy freehub body resists corrosion, withstands sprocket bite, and has extremely low wear.
An ultra-simple design allows for tool-free disassembly and maintenance, resulting in a very low probability of failure.
Lifetime warranty! (Excluding bearings).

5.Weight
Weight is a direct indicator of performance, especially in competitive cycling. Lightweighting should not come at the cost of stiffness or durability. An excellent lightweight hub achieves its weight without compromising other performance aspects.
The R2 weighs approximately 285g—an ultra-light hub that maintains high stiffness and durability.

Additionally, the R2 comes in a wide range of colors and supports custom color options.

In summary, the high-performance R2 hub is the product of successfully balancing and combining all these aspects.
